Jetstar have an appalling record for handling customer funds. Even if you want to apply a changed/cancelled booking for another flight, they will make you pay over more money and promise you (perhaps several promises over several weeks) that the refund will arrive in a certain number of days and has been processed. Unfortunately even a refund marked as Urgent will not arrive within 72 hours, or even perhaps, ever.

This strategy appears to be a way for Jetstar to use your funds for other purposes (so a free loan), stop you from booking a flight until the last opportunity (when the cost of the flight may have doubled), or simply making it too awkward to ever get your money back.

Their Customer Service people will refuse to escalate your call to a Supervisor or Manager, will not verify anything they have said with an email, despite emailing you other things, and will not cooperate to source an avenue for complaints or a Customer Services Manager.

Even if you have chosen a ticket type with options for "Flight Cancellation", "Change Flight Dates or Time", or "Cancel your Flight for a full credit voucher refund", Jetstar will find some excuse why you no longer qualify for those options. They have cleverly structured the payments and refunds systems, so that as a traveller with limited resources and time, it will be virtually impossible to connect and get a resolution.
Once after 40 minutes on-hold, I was cut off. Another time after a similar time the CSR returned to the call and said I can't hear you and hung up, despite nothing changing at my end! More than likely just a ploy to cut you off.

Booking direct with Jetstar is via an Australian website, however it is a NZ domestic flight, paid in NZ dollars with a NZ Credit Card, so should comply with NZ laws. Complaints, if no satisfaction with Jetstar at https://www.jetstar.com/nz/en/contact-us/complaints-and-compliments should be directed to generalenquiries@airlinecustomeradvocate.com.au or failing that the ACCC (Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) accc.gov.au

The planes are OK, the flying OK, but the management of customer funds is worse than bad. It will be worth your time and a little extra to fly another airline if possible, if you have any likelihood of a changing itinerary.
